The company

In 2010 we found a small coffee farm in a wild, disadvantaged region of Hawaii – Puna – posted on Craigslist. With little to lose we thought, “Why not?” 

The more we learned the complicated steps to produce great coffee, the stranger it became that the final product was a gimmicky souvenir – artificially flavored, stale 10% blends. We wanted to change that: to share the diverse, authentic Hawaiian coffees we tasted and the stories behind them.

We grow, mill, roast and source specialty Hawaiian coffees! We also make a nifty, smooth & creamy edible coffee bar called Espresso Bites.

The challenge

We wanted to improve our SEO.

Big Island Coffee Roasters had never done SEO before and had been learning and handling marketing in house until joining with Neil Patel’s team. The goal was to see success from the partnership and achieve one million in order volume this year.

The results

Our organic search traffic has gone up 178% since we started to work with Neil Patel Accel. Over that 6 month period Big Island Coffee Roasters has been able to increase ecommerce revenue by more than 460% and they are well on their way to accomplishing their goals they set at the beginning of the campaign.

The strategies

We provided onsite optimizations, content refreshes, internal links, and offsite content marketing  to help focus their keywords and fix existing SEO issues onsite. We addressed high volume key terms within striking distance to help them maximize traffic, then refreshed old content to bring life to old pieces.

Lessons learned

We learned that a strategy with different components works best, even for an ecommerce business. If we had only built links, and not fixed the issues on site through optimizations and refreshes, our work wouldn’t have made as big of an impact. Putting together a strategy with multiple deliverables helps our clients achieve better results.
